FAQs

We’re currently targeting a launch in 2026. Stay tuned to our Discord and socials for details and news as we approach release.
-
We’ll be offering a ranked matchmaking queue alongside community owned servers. Community has always been at the heart of the Guns of Icarus franchise and we want to make it easier than ever to build it.
-
We’re not currently planning for consoles or mobile at launch, but we’ll be evaluating and listening to feedback to see what makes sense for us after release.

In the same way Guns of Icarus brought you into a Steampunk fantasy, we wanted Stars of Icarus to be a new world and experience whilst keeping the gameplay at the heart of everything.
We’ve gone with a distinctly 90s style anime look, and deeply ingrained VHS aesthetic, not just as a visual layer on top, but because it’s at the heart of what we’re building. The feeling of catching an episode of Gundam or Dragon Ball Z as a kid, renting a tape from Blockbuster, or watching that bootleg copy your friend managed to get his hands on is as much part of the world as the guns and engines. Just as much as the film grain, overexposure, and sand was part of the WWI film aesthetic of flying an airship in the skies of Guns of Icarus. Stars of Icarus’s style is part of the feeling and mechanics of this world. What you can do, how your ship feels, how your guns operate, is as much a cohesive part of the feeling and aesthetic we’re trying to achieve, as the visuals and style of the ships and characters. It’s all part of the same vision. And we hope to show you how it all fit and feels together soon!

Guns of Icarus isn’t going anywhere! But we’re not planning any major updates for it. The events and community balance patches will keep running as long as you all keep playing. Unfortunately, doing any more substantial updates for Guns of Icarus Online and Alliance would present some real risks for us on both the technical and business side, and it would take away our ability to make new games.
-
In the competitive format, you’ll be facing off in 5 Player vs 5 Player matches. But we’re aiming to support up to 10v10 matches on community servers.
-
For the first time in the series, we’ll have 1-player fighters as well as 2 and 3-player ships. We wanted to support smaller, tighter competitive matches, in a 5v5 format. We also wanted to better support players who want to play with different-sized groups, not just players who have exactly 3 friends ready to play. Making a mixed ship size experience and meeting all those other goals, pushed 4 player ships just a little bit outside the design goals. But we’ve made a lot of other changes to the game to make it a strong, focused experience with smaller crews.

At launch we will have: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish (LATAM), Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Ukrainian, Chinese (Traditional & Simplified), Japanese, and Korean.
